TTU Rowe Captures OVC Player of the Week

Monday the Ohio Valley Conference released their weekly honors.  Congratulations to Torrance Rowe, who powered his Golden Eagles to three D1 wins and a single D2 victory.  The following notes were compiled by OVC Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations Kyle Schwartz and staff.

Torrance Rowe, G • Sr., 6-1, 175 • Atlanta, Ga. • Tennessee Tech

In four Tennessee Tech victories last week Rowe averaged 18.8 points, 5.8 assists and 3.5 rebounds/game while hitting 46 percent (23-of-50) from the field and 87.5 percent (21-of-24) from the free throw line. He opened the week with a career-high 35 points in an overtime victory over Jackson State. The senior knocked down 9-of-18 field goals (2-of-6 3-pointers) and 15-of-17 free throws while also adding five rebounds and five assists in 42 minutes of action. The following game he added 14 points, eight assists and six rebounds in 40 minutes of action against Robert Morris. He closed the week with 19 points, six assists and two rebounds against Mississippi Valley State. Rowe currently ranks third in the OVC in assists (4.4/game), fourth in scoring (17.3 points/game) and free throw percentage (86.1%) and eighth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.8).

Ryan Martin, F • Sr., 6-9, 225 • London, England • Tennessee Tech

In four victories last week Martin, the transfer from South Plains College, averaged 16.5 points, 8.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.0 blocks/game while hitting 62.5 percent (20-of-32) from the field and 85.7 percent (24-of-28) from the free throw line. He posted a season-high 20 points against each Jackson State and Robert Morris in the first two games of the week. Against RMU he added 10 rebounds to record his first double-double of the season. In just 13 minutes of action against UC Clermont he hit 4-of-4 field goals on his way to 11 points and seven rebounds. He closed the week with 15 points, nine rebounds, two blocks and an assist against Mississippi Valley State. Martin currently ranks fifth in the OVC in rebounding (7.3/game) and sixth in free throw percentage (83.3%).

Nick Mayo, F • Fr., 6-9, 220 • Oakland, Maine • Eastern Kentucky

Mayo earned his second-straight OVC Freshman of the Week honor after averaging 19.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.0 blocks/game and hitting 75 percent (18-of-24) from the field in a pair of Eastern Kentucky victories last week. The freshman opened the week with a season-best 21 points on 9-of-11 shooting (1-of-1 3-pointers) in a win over Thomas More. He followed that by hitting 9-of-13 field goals and scoring 18 points in a win over Southern Utah. In that victory he added six rebounds, a block and assist. Mayo is currently averaging 12.7 points/game, which is tops among all freshmen in the OVC.
