Southeast Missouri 2017 Autopsy
Southeast Missouri (15-18) nearly accomplished some startling fetes in 2017. Instead they have “fuel for the fire” in Head Coach Rick Ray’s words.
Despite earning a distant 6th in the OVC West Preseason Poll, the RedHawks finished a single win away from an OVC West title. Under Coach Ray the program made their 15th OVC Tournament appearance, capturing their 11th OVC Tournament victory in 26 tries. They defeated UT Martin and Murray State within the span of a February week.
For the first season in five years Southeast Missouri recorded nine OVC wins.
Antonius Cleveland earned First Team All-OVC again. Freshman Denzel Mahoney splashed his way onto the All-Newcomer Team and the All-OVC Second Team. Mahoney earned OVC Freshman of the Week six times, three weeks in a row in January.
Cleveland graciously looked back upon his college career after the loss. The emotion and sincerity was prevalent.
Cleveland has come a long way as a man and is proud of his maturation and newfound willingness to lead.
