Robinson Sets New Mark

With a game-tying three pointer escorting his Austin Peay Governors (2-4) in to the overtime, Josh Robinson managed to mount a career-high scoring effort.   Austin Peay needed all of his 39 points, especially the critical the shot at the end of the regulation, to win 90-86 over Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (1-6).

Thanks to consecutive FT misses by SIUE, Austin Peay had a chance to complete their comeback effort.  Trailing by three points under five seconds remaining in regulation, Robinson waited for a high screen from Chris Horton.   Robinson simply curled around it and raised up.

The ensuing splash rocked the Dunn Center and shattered the SIUE psyche.   The visiting Red Storm lead by as many as 11 points with 9:39 to play.

But Robinson’s scoring surge and last second triple erased that lead entirely.

“It was a really fun game,” said Robinson to  “I just wanted to come out and get the win.”

Robinson scored the last seven points for Austin Peay.  He scored 39 points on 9-21 shooting (4-9 3pters).  The 17-18 free throws were as important.  The Governors also used 15 points and 15 rebounds from Horton.

“I think it is a confidence boost for us,” said Robinson.  “If we keep working hard we will get into the OVC Tournament.”
