Racers Freshman Departs

Verbal Commits is reporting that Dondre Griffin has left the Murray State basketball program.

During his freshman season, Griffin played just over 54 minutes, stretched over the course of 14 games.  He made 10 shots and pulled down five rebounds.

Dondre Griffin committed to Murray State on 10/30/2015.

PhenomHoops is also reporting Grifffin’s release.

The Murray State Racers cannot comment on the player’s status.

Returning Backcourt

The Racers will have several top players returning in their backcourt.  OVC All-Tournament Team Jonathan Stark, Byron Hawkins (Towson transfer) will get the majority of minutes on the ball.

Perhaps Griffin didn’t see a path to playing time on the wing.

Wings like Jerami Grace, Gilbert Thomas, and Jachai Taylor figure to have enhanced roles this upcoming season.  In particular, Jerami Grace delivered an encouraging OVC Tournament.  The sophomore earned 25 minutes of PT, scoring seven points against UT Martin.  He also tugged down two offensive rebounds against the Skyhawks.
