Justin Benton talks SIUE verbal

Hours after introducing himself to the Ohio Valley Conference media contingent at OVC Media Day, SIUE Head Coach Jon Harris doubled up his 2016 recruiting class.

“I have decided to commit to play D1 basketball at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville!” tweeted guard Justin Benton (TN).

Benton hails from Houston High School in Memphis, Tennessee.

The Memphis Bulls AAU hooper is a bouncy guard.  He needs to add upper body strength, as all high school players do.  His ability to attack the rim is what lured in the D1 offers.

“I was considering Southeastern Louisiana,” said Benton.

Southeastern Louisiana offered first.  SIU-E extended an offer late in September.

“I felt like SIUE was the best fit for me,” said Benton.  “I felt like I could be a part of something very special.  The coaches made it clear to me that I would be treated like family and I feel as if I can grow into a mature man within the program.”

Benton joins Kevion Stewart, also from Memphis, as part of the Cougars Class of 2016.
