Jax State Targets Power Guard Tray Lawson
Tray Lawson (pictured) has Southeastern Louisiana, Southern Miss,” said Northeast Mississippi Community College Head Coach Cord Wright. “Oregon has contacted us, guys like that. Jacksonville State. Those type of guys have reached out a little.”
A native of Brandon, Mississippi, Lawson played with the Jackson Tigers as a junior and competed with the adidas-sponsored MBA AAU prior to his senior campaign. He earned Rumble in the Bronx South MVP last December.
Lawson was 6-foot-6 and 230 pounds entering college. He handles the ball well enough to be a wing, but his size is daunting for defenders.
Uncommon power anchors Lawson’s game. The style is typically brute strength mixed with a sprinkling of agility. He will need to limit his turnovers to enjoy more ball-handling responsibilities with Northeast (2.17 turnovers per game).
He can rotate between the 2-3-4 spots. Lawson is second on the team with 6.3 rebounds per game. His 7.0 ppg makes him a moderate contributor on the offensive end, early in his freshman campaign.
Lawson has started all six games.
He is a member of the Class of 2017, pending graduation from Northeast.
