EIU Elite Camp to Feature Pinkley
Thanks to a 90-minute drive each week, Gaven Pinkley (6-foot-8, 195) is rounding into a top-tier frontcourt prospect. The Class of 2018 forward stars for Hillsboro High School, but he and his family knew that was not enough.
To be really good at this thing, Pinkley decided to reach out to Coach/Instructor Terrell Ramey.
The relationship budded into a mutual admiration society. Now Coach Ramey leads Gaven, Courtney Ramey, and Torrence Watson to greatness at the 16u level. Ramey Jets United runs out one of the top teams in the Midwest, if not the central column of the nation.
The younger Ramey added a Texas offer today. Watson surpassed 1,000 career points as a sophomore and landed a Creighton offer this spring. For now Gaven’s recruitment trails behind his teammates.
When Pinkley hits the EIU Elite Camp Sunday that could all change.
“(Assistant) Coach (Marc) Strickler invited him to camp Sunday,” said Brian Pinkley. “He camped with Drake and was top ten overall, in my opinion.”
Drake’s camp was loaded with mid-major talent including Jamal Nixon (IL), P.J. Pipes (IL), and others. In addition to camp invites, Gaven Pinkley and family are now dealing with direct coach calls. The flood gates open for sophomores every June 15th.
“Yesterday was a big day for his age class,” said Coach Pinkley. “Drake called back. They loved what they saw, they said. He heard from Tulsa, Lindenwood again, Central Michigan, and Missouri State.”
“He will be going to SIU-Carbondale Saturday and then up to Eastern Illinois,” said Mr. Pinkley. “He will be going to SIU-E also. I think that is 25th. Missouri State told him to come down to that one.”
Pinkley is one of the best players in the Midwest without an offer (D1) and that will change very, very soon.
