Carpenter Officially Visiting SeMo Today
Class of 2017 PF Justin Carpenter (Mt. Caramel, Illinois) was unable to visit Southeast Missouri earlier in the month, citing a family conflict. This weekend he will be in The Cape, on an official visit.
According to @PrepHoopsIL, Carpenter is also scheduled to officially visit Eastern Illinois, Western Illinois, and Southern Indiana.
“Last weekend I went to EIU,” said Carpenter. “And also, Austin Peay isn’t recruiting me anymore. They got a commitment from another big man a couple weeks ago.”
Justin Carpenter played AAU with PocketCity AAU 17u on the adidas circuit. The program is relatively young, but already produced 2017 C Jack Nunge (Iowa verbal), 2017 WG Alex King (NKU/Ball State offers), and 2018 G Robin Duncan (UT Martin offer).
Carpenter is a nice shooter, from virtually any point on the floor. Because he experienced late growth, his agility is above average. Justin Carpenter routinely scored against smaller defenders in high school, and will have to adapt to taller shot-blockers in college. Typically, the OVC has one sizable big in each lineup.
Still, Justin Carpenter finishes high and can change his point of attack well. He can dribble, but will not be asked to at the next level. On teh rare occasion his coaches spot a quickness-mismatch Carpenter would be able to pull his man out and attack with the dribble. This is not his game though, and would need to be used in rare instances.
His strengths are shooting touch, technique, and a surprisingly low center of gravity for a big man.
The forward target is not explosive, but he is nimble. Think Tyler Hansbrough with a less rebounding hunger. Good footwork is the foundation of his whole game.
Southeast Missouri already secured verbal commitments from Khalil Cuffee and JuCo big Olawale Odofin.
