Anthony Wales talks EKU Interest

Sunday Class of 2018 point guard Anthony Wales (KY) discussed his previous visit and admiration for the EKU basketball program.  Wales is currently being recruited by Samford, WKU, EKU, and to a degree Louisville.

Along with family, Wales visited the Richmond campus in 2015.

“I saw how they take education seriously,” recalls Wales.  “(The style is) fast-tempo.  They get out and run.  And they get after it.”

In Coach McHale’s only season in charge the EKU Colonels finished (15-16, 6-10).  The season was not without high points.  The visiting Colonels whacked Tennessee State in Nashville and followed it up with a win at Belmont.  Nobody wins at Belmont.

He also dropped by WKU, but “didn’t really like visit it as much,” said Wales.  It is ok.  I don’t find myself going there.”

Samford has offered Wales.  For this reason and the family atmosphere Samford Head Coach Scott Padgett is fostering, Samford is at or near the top of his list so far.

Louisville, Memphis, and Mississippi State intrigue the sophomore guard.  While these schools are not interested yet, their potential recognition of his achievements serves as motivation for him.  He would like to improve so that even Kentucky offers him.

In April and ‘this summer’ Wales will compete with The Travelers AAU 16u team.
