2017 SG Hunter Vick talks Austin Peay
by Andrew Force · June 14, 2016
Austin Peay entered the Hunter Vick sweepstakes last Sunday (6/5), becoming the first Division One offer.
To be clear, Vick earned a UT Martin offer over the winter, but then-UTM Head Coach Heath Schroyer is now a North Carolina State Assistant Coach. With his departure the UT Martin offer is ostensibly pulled.
No matter. Austin Peay hosted Vick for camp.
“I really enjoyed the whole experience at Austin Peay Sunday,” exclaimed Vick. “I already knew I liked Coach (Jay) Hogan because we had talked several times via phone calls and texts, but I was really impressed with the players! They talked to me like I was a part of the team.”
Vick was one of three campers to earn offers from the one-day Elite Camp.
Though Austin Peay is Vick’s first D1 offer, he maintains strong interest from Belmont and Tennessee Tech. Belmont Assistant Coach Brian Ayers evaluated Vick’s playoff push firsthand.
Honestly, Vick’s only shortcoming is exposure. Playing in a smaller Tennessee town he was rarely watched by decision-makers. That is changing with AAU and camp invites.
Next stop for Vick is SIU-C, where he will play with the current squad. Also, Camden will compete in the SIU-C Team Camp. Look for Vick to enter July with two or three new offers. He runs with EAB Select AAU.
